Join the Alamo Area Corvette Club as they make their 8th Annual Cruise to Opies BBQ. "Opie’s is a pick-your-meat-from-the-show kind of joint, and once you recover from your swoon, an attendant is standing by to assist you in your selections.  "We recommend getting the brisket, a little bit of both the regular and jalapeño sausage, half a rack of sweet-and-spicy babyback ribs, and one of Opie’s enormous porkchops (there are also pork spareribs, porkloin, pulled pork ,beef ribs, and chicken)."- Texas Monthly Magazine

Date:
28 Jan 2023
Meetup Time: 9:30am
Meetup Location: HEB - 1604 and Hwy 281 Address18140 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio, TX 78232
Depart time: 10:00am
Location: Opies BBQ HWY 71E, SPICEWOOD,TEXAS

Details: The plan is to meet at HEB parking lot, located at the corner of 1604 and Hwy 281. We will leave promptly at 10:00am and drive straight up Hwy 281 and should arrive in Spicewood around 11:30am. If you would like to meet us along the way up Hwy 281, please let us know to expect you. As always, please register on the website if you plan to attend.

Note:  Every year, the amount of cars that attend grows. Last year we had approximately 40+ cars. That being said, there are some discussion items to mention about the event before this Saturday. These issues will also be briefed at the start of the event and at the Valero Gas Station which is our mid-point. Please have a full tank of gas, although you can stop along the way to get fuel if needed.

Note: If you haven't registered on the website please do, so we can give the restaurant an accurate count of those attending.  https://aacc.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=4002&club_id=120128&item_id=1791836&event_date_id=255

Weather:
We are watching the weather, and if it looks like it may rain, we will move the event.

1 - This is a leisurely cruise to Opies BBQ. Some drivers may elect to drive slower and more cautiously than others. Please respect that.

2 - Take caution when leaving the HEB parking lot and merging onto the access row. There are two lanes that lead to 281. Merge safely onto 281

3 - If you would like to meet us along the way up Hwy 281 we will be departing at 10:00am. There are some meet-up points where other people have said they will join the cruise. Hwy 281 and Hwy 46, Hwy 281 and 306, and the 7-11 as you come into Blanco (1138 US-281, Blanco, TX 78606).

4 - Please note if you need to stop for fuel or a restroom stop there is no issue with that. You will still be able to meet-up with us at the Valero Station or at Opies BBQ

5 -
Important: We understand there is some concerning crossing over to get to the Valero parking lot and crossing back over when we leave. As was mentioned, this is optional. We do not have the funds to have police block traffic while we exit since they would have to block both lanes to do so. Everyday, people cross over to the Valero and exit the Valero. The important thing to remember is drive your drive. Merge onto 281 only when you feel it is safe to to do and dont feel pressured to leave when it isn't safe. Caution when leaving the Valero that you do not kick up loose road gravel towards cars behind you.  Again, we are not in a race to get to Opies. There will be plenty of food when you get there.

6 - Once at Opie's BBQ there may be a wait in line, but it typically goes quick. The faster people order while inline will dictate how fast the line moves. You may want to look at the menu before you get there. (

7- Departure is at your own pace. There will be people going to other sites around the area afterward such as Iron Wolf, Spicewood Vineyard, etc.

8- Lastly, and most important is have fun, enjoy the cruise, meet new friends catch up with old ones while at the event and be safe while enjoying the trip and take plenty of pics!
